Understanding Spectrophotometers - FTIR

FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) spectrophotometers are advanced analytical instruments used to identify and characterise materials based on their infrared absorption spectra. By measuring the intensity of infrared light absorbed by a sample as a function of wavelength, FTIR spectrophotometers provide valuable information about the molecular composition and functional groups present in various substances. These instruments are widely used in chemistry, materials science, and pharmaceuticals for applications such as identifying unknown compounds, studying reaction mechanisms, and analysing the purity of materials. The FTIR technique offers advantages such as rapid data acquisition, high sensitivity, and the ability to analyse solid, liquid, and gaseous samples. With user-friendly software for spectral analysis and interpretation, FTIR spectrophotometers are essential tools for researchers seeking to gain insights into the chemical and physical properties of their samples.
