PCR cabinets can provide a sterile workspace for preparation of PCR reagents in a passive manner by soaking the workspace in shortwave germicidal UV light. The cabinet may also be of an active forced ventilation design which uses HEPA or UV filters to give a clean air environment. Some also operate in a similar manner to a biosafety cabinet to provide operator as well as sample protection.
