Microplate Readers - Multi-Format - Biotek

Today's research requires that instrumentation be cost effective, reliable and easy to use. In response to those requirements, BioTek Instruments has developed the Synergy™ HT Multi-Mode Microplate Reader. This plate reader for fluorescence, absorbance and luminescence measurements was designed with an emphasis on superior performance in all detection methods. Unlike many multi-mode microplate readers, the Synergy HT utilizes a unique dual-optics design.

When making fluorescence determinations, the Synergy HT uses a tungsten halogen lamp with interference filters for wavelength specificity in conjunction with a PMT detector. The tungsten halogen lamp produces a large amount of light at a constant intensity, providing increased sensitivity and repeatability. Specially designed fluorescent interference filters prevent light leakage from excitation wavelength to the emission wavelength, particularly important with fluorescent compounds with small Stoke's shifts. In addition, the ability to use filters with different bandpasses allows the investigator to tailor their fluorescence measurements to their experiment more effectively.

The low noise PMT is operated in digital photon integration mode for high performance luminescence measurements.

When absorbance measurements are made, the instrument switches to a Xenon Flash Lamp and a monochromator for wavelength selection. The use of a xenon flash lamp allows for both UV and visible light absorbance measurements. The monochromator provides wavelength selection from 200 to 999 nm in 1 nm increments. Thus, dual-optics design allows the investigator to have three different reading modes without compromise.

The Synergy HT has a 4-Zone™ temperature control system that ensures superior temperature uniformity necessary for kinetic assays. With a compact footprint and robot-accessible carrier design, the Synergy HT is also compatible with most automated systems. A Reagent Dispenser option is available. Reader control is via BioTek's Gen5™ Data Analysis Software. USB and serial ports are available for easy connectivity.

Features:

• Automatic top and bottom epifluorescence read modes optimized for both sensitive homogeneous and cell-based assays
• Compatible with Take3 Multi-Volume Plate: sixteen 2 µL microspots for low volume DNA/RNA 260 nm measurements. Saves precious samples, very fast and simple process.

Microplate Washers - Biotek

BioTek's years of experience in the development of both microplate washers and automated systems for EIA applications has culminated in the ELx50™ Strip Washer. As a self contained and programmable instrument, the ELx50 allows for full control of precise fluidic delivery from the gentle dripping of a simple squeeze bottle to the full force of pressure delivery systems.

The new ELx50 Washer is now a truly flexible platform that provides washing capabilities unsurpassed in its class. Newly available models with biomagnetic separation and vacuum filtration capabilities make the ELx50 an excellent choice for automating the wash steps of 96-well magnetic or polystyrene bead assays, such as those developed on the Luminex® xMAP® technology platform. The ELx50 Washer is Luminex® xMAP® approved.Users not requiring an integrated stacker can expect the same great bead washing performance as BioTek’s industry leading full plate washers but here in a more compact footprint. Comprehensive onboard software makes programming quick and easy. Custom magnets, in either flat or ring designs, incorporate high-energy neodymium iron boron magnets for rapid separation of micrometer and nanometer magnetic beads with superior retention. A fast and efficient vacuum filtration module allows vacuum to be adjusted with a range of settings for flexibility with polystyrene beads when using various filter pore sizes and sample viscosities. The vacuum filtration module is also well suited for filtration-to-waste processes such as PCR cleanup after DNA amplification to remove unwanted residues or reaction by-products with filtrate. The washer’s modular platform allows for processing standard solid bottom plates used in a laboratory’s many traditional ELISAs and cell based assays.

The ELx50 can also be equipped with our patented Dual-Action™ 16-channel manifold. This breakthrough design allows for independent control of the dispense and aspiration manifolds for overfill washing and overflow protection in both 96- and 384-well formats. The problem of fitting dispense and aspirate tubes into a much smaller 384-well is solved with the ELx50. Additionally, in a 96-well format, the Dual-Action manifold provides incomparable wash performance with two sets of dispense and aspiration tubes per well. This exclusive method of two-fold aspiration guarantees low residuals.

As a welcome upgrade from manual processing, the new ELx50 Microplate Strip Washer will bring to your lab an all inclusive wash solution offering consistent performance and unattended operation.

Universal Test Plate

Used with all Bio-Tek Automated Readers.

Overview

Quality Control of your Results
Bio-Tek recognizes the importance of verifying the performance of analytical instrumentation. Many regulatory agencies, laws (such as CLIA 88) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) require a microplate reader be periodically checked to ensure it continues to meet factory specifications.

Bio-Tek Provides Performance Verification
All Bio-Tek automated readers can be quickly and simply tested for critical performance specifications using two complementary methods uniquely developed by Bio-Tek Instruments:
  • Bio-Tek's optional Universal Calibration Test Plate uses neutral density filters and precision machined alignment holes to confirm performance specs.
  • Bio-Tek's on-board Reader Diagnostic Self-Test verifies the reader's optical and electronic performance.
Autoreader Calibration Test Plate
Bio-Tek's Universal Calibration Test Plate helps meet regulatory instrumentation requirements by testing four critical specifications:
  • Alignment
  • Accuracy
  • Reproducibility
  • Linearity
No Liquids or Pipetting
The Universal Calibration Test Plate is the size and shape of a standard microplate and is inserted into the microplate carrier of your autoreader. Within seconds, the four critical parameters described above are analyzed in detail.

NIST-Traceable
Each Test Plate consists of the following:
  • NIST (NBS)-traceable neutral density glass filters for checking accuracy, reproducibility, and linearity
  • Blanking verification holes
  • Alignment verification holes
8-Standard Wavelengths

Precision 2000

Automated Microplate Pipetting System

Overview
Precision 2000TM is an affordable, innovative solution for automated 96-/384-well microplate liquid handling. With its ability to perform virtually any routine liquid transfer, Precision 2000 replaces manual pipetting.

The configurable multi-station platform and powerful onboard software allow for customized applications. The unique XY transport design provides effortless 96- to 384-well plate transfers with the same pipette mechanism. Additionally, robotic plate handlers can be seamlessly interfaced to Precision 2000 via an available ActiveXTM component. Bio-Tek's proprietary pipette technology provides a reliable way to pick up and seal standard tips with controlled force. Precision 2000 solves the sealing issues associated with conventional pipettes.

Precision 2000 offers a variety of fluid transfer operations including:

  • Reagent addition
  • Mixing within a well
  • Serial dilutions
  • Rapid Dispense Mode
  • Plate replication
  • Sample transfer
    • Plate-to-plate (96 to 96, 384 to 384, 96 to 384)
    • Within a plate

Features
Hardware:

  • Pipette:
Precision 2000's uniquely designed pipette is made up of 12 or 8 individual syringes and guarantees reliable tip pickup. Each syringe is free floating within the body of the pipette. When tips are picked, the syringes are free to move up to accommodate differences in height and radially to accommodate deviations from ideal position. Precision 2000 achieves the most reliable seal on all tips with equal force.
  • Work Surface:
Precision 2000 comes equipped with a user configurable platform. A reagent trough, disposable tip container and up to six 96- or 384-well microplates can all be positioned where they best suit your application. The entire platform can be removed for easy cleaning. When pipette tips are used, a programmer can decide whether to return the tips to the source for reuse or discard in the waste vessel provided.
  • Robotic Compatibility:
Robotic compatibility is a standard feature with Precision 2000. The configuration of the platform combined with its XY transport capability make Precision 2000 compatible with robotic plate handlers. An ActiveXTM package is available for simple integration.
  • Rapid Dispense Mode:
Precision 2000 ensures fast, flexible and precise automated liquid delivery. Rapid Dispense Mode is made possible with an optional manifold. A separate positive displacement pump allows for the continuous rapid dispensing of reagent from any size reservoir to both 96- and 384-well microplates.
  • Safety:
Precision 2000 optimizes safety in today's laboratory. As an automated pipetting system, Precision 2000 helps eliminate repetitive motion injuries. Its compact size makes Precision 2000 ideally suited for installation into a biological safety cabinet. When installed on the lab bench, an optional protective cabinet is also available to prevent aerosols. This protective cabinet shields the operator while Precision 2000 is running. An internal software safeguard is available at any point in the liquid transfer if a pause or program abort is necessary.

Software:

  • Pre-Defined Demo Programs, Program Creation Ability:
Precision 2000 comes pre-installed with some of the most common pipetting routines, including reagent additions, serial dilutions and plate-to-plate transfers. The software is thoughtfully designed to enable the user to copy an existing demonstration protocol and simply modify it to meet specific requirements. Up to 80 program files can be stored in memory. The user has the ability to create, edit, copy and delete files from the external keypad with a 2 x 24 character display. Virtually any liquid transfer parameter can be customized. Configurable aspiration depth ensures that tips don't touch the bottom of wells while managing sensitive cell assays.
  • Validation, Printing, Lock Feature:
Precision 2000 offers an automatic validation utility which ensures proper creation or modification of protocols before any liquid transfer can take place. This feature conserves time and expensive supplies. After a protocol is created or modified, parameters can easily be printed for an additional verification. A convenient lock feature is also available for security purposes.
  • QC Programs:
Precision 2000 comes equipped with pre-programmed protocols for Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification and Performance Verification needs. Each instrument is factory tested for optimal precision and accuracy performance. Performance documentation accompanies each instrument, and tests can be easily duplicated by the user.

Synergy HT Multi-Detection Microplate Reader

Multi-detection capability with uncompromised performance. Now with Time Resolved Fluorescence!

Overview
Today's research requires that instrumentation be cost effective, reliable and easy to use. In response to those requirements, Bio-Tek Instruments has developed the SynergyTM HT. This new microplate reader for fluorescence and absorbance measurements was designed with an emphasis on superior performance in both detection methods as well as sensitive glow luminescence measurements. Unlike many multi-detection microplate readers, the Synergy HT utilizes a unique dual-optics design. Thus, dual-optics design allows the investigator to have two different reading modes without compromise.

Synergy HT reader has a 4-ZoneTM temperature control option which ensures superior temperature uniformity necessary for kinetic assays. With a compact footprint and robot-accessible carrier design, the Synergy HT is also compatible with most automated systems. Reader control is via Bio-Tek's KC4 data reduction software or an ActiveX® software component.

PowerWave XS Universal Microplate Spectrophotometer

Overview
The PowerWaveTM XS is the newest edition to the powerful PowerWave line of products and sets a new standard for performance and value. Never has this line-up of features been so affordably priced. Any microplate type from 6- to 384-wells is accommodated including Terasaki formats and Bio-Tek’s patented Bio-CellTM quartz vessel for standard 1 cm measurements. A variety of read modes including endpoint, kinetic and spectral scanning assays are available. Applications include ELISA, kinetic enzyme assays, nucleic acid quantitation, A260/A280 ratios, protein analysis and much more.

The PowerWave XS offers tunable wavelength selection from 200 to 999 nm in 1 nm increments and wavelength scanning without the need for filters. Unique 4-ZoneTM temperature control to 50°C, user programmable shaking, robotic compatibility and ultra fast Sweep read mode are standard features of the PowerWave XS. The instrument’s small footprint is designed to conserve precious bench top space.
Features
  • No Interference Filters Required
The PowerWave XS is equipped with a monochromator for continuous wavelength selection from 200 – 999 nm. Wavelengths can be selected in 1 nm increments to meet all assay requirements. It is like having 800 filters built in. If the best conditions are not known, any well can be spectrally scanned for a portion of the spectrum or across the entire wavelength range.Mutiple Microplate Types
  •
  • Any standard microplate from 6- to 384-wells can be accommodated. This includes 60-, 72- and 96-well Terasaki plates. The PowerWave XS is truly a universal microplate spectrophotometer. In addition to microplates, the PowerWave XS can also read up to 8 of Bio-Tek’s patented Bio-CellTM quartz vessels for fixed 1 cm measurements.
  •
  • Choice of Reading Speeds
The PowerWave XS offers speed options based on the customer’s requirements. Normal Mode incorporates Bio-Tek’s enhanced reading capabilities. With the use of a xenon flash lamp, every well is flashed 8 times. If the average of the 8 wells is less than 2.0 OD, the result is reported. If the average is greater than 2.0 OD, the well is flashed a total of 64 times. An average of the 64 reads is accurately reported for an assured result. In Rapid Mode, every well is flashed 8 times regardless of the result. If higher throughput is required, the PowerWave XS’ Sweep Mode meets the challenge. Using “on the fly” technology, an entire 96-well plate can be read in 14 seconds. Even when spectrally scanning a well, the user has a choice of reading speeds.
  •
  • Temperature Control and Microplate Shaking
Bio-Tek’s 4-ZoneTM temperature control is a standard feature with the PowerWave XS. Unlike a forced hot air system, the PowerWave XS incorporates a natural convection system. This reduces evaporation in the microplate across its broad temperature range of 4° above ambient to 50° Celsius. In the reading chamber, the microplate is completely surrounded by four independently controlled heaters guaranteeing no more variation across the microplate than ± .5° at 37° Celsius. The PowerWave XS allows users to select from four shaking intensities for controlled agitation. Low, medium, high and variable intensities can be chosen in addition to the shaking duration.
  •
  • KCjunior Software Included
Bio-Tek’s KCjunior software is packaged with the PowerWave XS at no addition charge. KCjunior provides complete control in an intuitive and user-friendly format.

Robotics Compatible
The PowerWave XS’ small footprint makes it ideal for robotic systems. The carrier design allows access from three sides of the microplate. The carrier’s automatic microplate locator activates the microplate only upon reading to allow the robotic gripper better ease of movement. The PowerWave XS is compatible with both Bio-Tek’s Fastrack robotic arm and Bio-StackTM automated microplate stacker.
