Image Acquisition
The VisionWorks®LS image capture function is configured to work with UVP’s BioImaging Systems. 

Capture images of any fluorescently labeled or colorimetric stained gels, blots, and membranes. For chemiluminescent imaging, acquire chemiluminescent Western, Northern and Southern blot images without using radioisotope labeled 32P and film. The user friendly software guides you through steps for capture of images. Integration options:
  • On-chip integration for the simplest image capture; convert “live image preview” to captured image with one keystroke
  • Sequential integration for automatic sequence of images of increasing exposure to ensure captured picture with optional exposure times; features automatic Digital Video Playback (DVP) of acquired images

For the optimum visualisation of agarose or polyacrylamide gels, UVItec offers what is probably the widest available range of ultraviolet transilluminators. The ‘mini’ range takes 8W tubes and can have filter sizes up to 21 x 26cm. With the standard sized range, filter sizes up to 20 x 40cm are possible. All models are of superb quality with stainless steel filter frames, longlife filters and highly polished ‘ondulex’ reflectors for ultimate efficiency. An adjustable UV blocking cover is included to protect the user from harmful UV. The range now includes electronic ballast technology as standard with the exception of the dual wavelength and the white light models. This new technology reduces flicker, provides instant switch on and allows dual intensity to be a standard feature.

Extensive range

There are more than 30 models in the entire UVItec range, including two sizes of unit (mini and standard), five sizes of viewing filter and three different wavelength ranges. Mini units (BXT, BTS) have a small footprint of 34 x 26cm while standard units (SXT, STS) have a footprint of 47 x 33cm. Filter sizes of 15 x 15cm, 20 x 20cm and 21 x 26cm are available for mini units while standard unit filters can be up to 20 x 40cm. Wavelength ranges of maximum 254nm, 312nm and 365nm are available as well as dual wavelength and white light models.

Highest performance

The highly polished ‘ondulex’ reflectors positioned behind the UV tubes give the highest possible efficiency of UV output, superior to that achieved by plain aluminium. The filter material is also chosen for maximum transmission of the chosen wavelength range as well as long life usage (unlimited at 365 and 312nm, up to 3000 hours at 254nm).

Designed for rough treatment

 

The high quality, stainless steel filter frame is resistant to chemicals and scratching. The epoxy painted body is also chemical resistant and the unit design eliminates leakage of liquids into the interior.

Facilitates gel handling

The transfer and positioning of wet gels onto the transilluminator surface is facilitated by the smooth, scratch resistant stainless steel filter frame and the highly polished filter surface.

The angle-adjustable UV blocking cover offers hands-free protection to users from the harmful UV rays.

Space saving

 The mini units offer efficient, high-powered UV illumination of gels and blots up to 21 x 26cm in size, while having a footprint of only 34 x 26cm. What is more, the mini sized dual wavelength models allow illumination in two different wavelengths from a single compact unit. A dual UV/white light model is also available for illumination of fluorescent and visible gels of up to 20 x 20cm.

ultravue transilluminator

The use of special filter material in the Ultravue transilluminator greatly enhances contrast, making fluorescent bands easier to see both by eye and with documentation systems such as UVIsave, UVIdoc and UVIpro. The special filter eliminates visible light output thereby reducing the need for filtering to isolate the fluorescent band signal.

 

Enhanced viewing with ethidium and sybr® stains

Gels stained both with ethidium bromide and with sybr® green are viewed by eye more easily on the Ultravue transilluminator. Since background light is eliminated, no filtering is required, and no signal is lost. The dark, uniform filter surface provides a high contrast background enabling viewing of even the faintest bands.

 

Enhanced documentation

The absence of visible background light and minimal IR output from the Ultravue transilluminator enable broad transmission camera filters to be used. This ensures that maximum transmission of the fluorescent signal is always achieved. For sybr® green documentation, Ultravue is preferable to visible (blue light) illumination in which a large part of the signal is always lost while filtering out the blue background light.

UVItec Chemiluminescence Imaging Introduction

UVItec proudly introduces two ultra-high performance imaging systems for chemiluminescence and fluorescence documentation.  Both systems have unrivalled sensitivity and resolution. 

The UVIchemi is a high end dedicated chemiluminescence documentation system for users who require fast and accurate detection with no sacrifice in sensitivity or quality. 
 

The UVIprochemi system superbly combines ultra-high sensitivity chemiluminescence and fluorescence documentation in a flexible system. A set of filter options and overhead (epi-) UV and white light illumination ensure that the system can be optimised for a number of different fluorescent applications.
 

 

Our ultra sensitive, cooled CCD camera means that chemiluminescence images can now be captured easily, utilising the full resolution of the camera. Binning mode, which is often used to increase the sensitivity of a camera (but greatly decreases image resolution) is no longer necessary. Both systems have a unique additional cooling system for handling high ambient temperatures.

Recent improvements in cooled CCD camera technology have resulted in a great leaps forward in both sensitivity and resolution. Chemiluminescence documentation has now come of age and offers applications such as accurate quantification that were not previously available when using X-ray film.  

At UVItec we quickly recognised that chemiluminescence places unique demands on an image documentation system. Conventional CCD cameras are unsuited to the rigors of chemiluminescence documentation. Chemiluminescent reactions often produce an extremelyweak light signal that requires far longer exposure times than are necessary for conventional fluorescence documentation. Due to the properties of CCD sensors, long exposure times mean that heat generated by electronic circuitry of the camera cause the background noise levels to increase with the exposure time.  Deep cooled CCD cameras are therefore used to eliminate the high levels of background. Our tests have shown that the UVItec deep cooled CCD camera produces negligible noise levels even at exposures of over 30 minutes.

Flexibility comes from an array of features for pre-acquisition image optimisation and post-acquisition processing while ease of use comes from the convenient layout and user-friendly adjustment tools. What is more, acquisition parameters can be saved for future use by each individual user and images can be saved in a variety of formats suitable for export to almost any image processing software. UVIlite Ultraviolet Lamps


 

A very wide range of ultraviolet lamps from low power hand held models to high intensity units is available. There are filtered lamps in three wavelengths for use in fluorescent techniques and unfiltered lamps in both long and short (germicidal) wavelengths. All incorporate an extruded, anodised aluminium housing and a specially designed unique profile has been developed for the hand held lamps. Incorporating cold cathode quartz grid lamps, housed in anodised aluminium extrusion and with the same highly efficient ondulex reflector as filtered lamps. Simple yet versatile

The UVIlink CL 508 Crosslinker is a fully microprocessor controlled unit especially designed to give the best possible results when binding nucleic acids to membranes. The correct ultraviolet dosage can be set using the membrane switch keypad, in either energy units (Joules) or time (seconds). There are nine possible presets for energy exposure and nine presets for time exposure as well as manual user selection in either units.

Superb quality results in less time

Ultraviolet crosslinking of DNA and RNA to nylon or nitrocellulose membranes is now well established as a laboratory technique and there is considerable published work on the topic. Time saved from UV crosslinking over the conventional vacuum oven baking method is considerable – seconds or minutes as opposed to hours.

Small and safe without compromising efficiency

UVIlink CL 508 provides a compact unit occupying minimum bench space with a footprint of only 350 x 350 mm and a spacious interior chamber of 270 x 300 x 140 mm. As with all UVItec products, safety is a major consideration so the CL508 door is safety interlocked against opening during operation and the observation window in the door is ultraviolet blocking.

The ultraviolet energy is continuously monitored by an accurate microprocessor controlled photo feedback system which compensates for variation in output from the UV sources. In this way consistency of operation and maximum efficiency are maintained.

UVIdoc Gel Documentation System

 

UVIdoc is a superbly designed low cost documentation system featuring a unique combination of simplicity and versatility

It operates as a stand-alone system for producing high quality thermal prints of gel images. However, the compact flash slot also allows image capture direct to a flash card  (as TIFF or JPG files). The images produced can be saved as a suberb 12 bit file, the format can be chosen by the user. The images can then be loaded into the UVIgeltec software which enables image manipulation, annotation and simple analysis. Saturation monitoring of the live image ensures that fully quantifiable images may be captured first time.

A brand new unique feature for the UVIdoc is the addition of a network card into the darkroom cabinet. This will enable the user to install the UVIdoc onto their local network allowing fast and easy access to images already stored on the UVIdoc. Random Access memory (RAM) will allow 30 images to be stored for easy transfer.

UVIdoc is available in two versions. GAS9500 has a built-in 5.6 inch LCD screen which replaces the CCTV monitor supplied with GAS9000. All other features and functions are the same for both systems.

Because both models of UVIdoc are so simple to operate, minimal training is required and high quality images can be acquired in seconds. This, combined with safety features, makes either UVIdoc ideal for environments with a high number of regular or casual users. The user interface includes a wipe-clean six-button key-pad conveniently positioned at eye level. A safety-interlocking darkroom door protects the user from harmful UV output.

UVIchrompro tlc Documentation System

UVIchrom-pro is an inexpensive system, specially designed for PC-based documentation and analysis of thin layer chromatography (TLC) plates. It is similar to the UVIpro system (see p4), but has a different darkroom cabinet and UV light source, plus a slightly modified software package in which the Molecular weight analysis function is replaced by Rf value calculation.

The UVIchrom darkroom hood is designed for efficient overhead UV illumination and imaging of thin layer chromatography plates. It incorporates four powerful (15 watt) UV tubes of optional wavelengths, positioned two on each side, above and close to the sample for maximum efficiency and uniformity of illumination. The camera is fixed to a special central mounting unit. White light illumination to aid sample positioning is also incorporated into the hood. The cabinet will allow imaging of plates in excess of 20 x 20cm.

UVIchrom can also be used with a high quality (3 CCD chip) colour camera and a dye sublimation printer. These can be supplied (at additional cost) in place of the standard 8-bit monochrome CCD camera and b+w thermal printer.

Transilluminators - UVP
 

 

Visi-Blue™ Transilluminators

Visi-Blue Transilluminators are UV safe and convert 365nm UV to 460-470nm blue light for use with various stains including GFP stains, SYBR Green and SYPRO Orange. Two filter sizes are available. 

Main Features 
Visi-Blue Transilluminators are designed for use with GFP stains. As compared to UV, the blue light will transmit through almost any transparent (plastic, glass, etc.) laboratory equipment. This is essential when monitoring and detecting DNA migration and protein expression in real time.

UVP Luminescent Standards

GelDoc-IT TS

Luminescent standards for calibration of light measuring equipment and validation of data. Glowell standards provide calibration and validation of a wide range of light measurement systems while simultaneously acting as standards for experimental data.

Features:
The Glowell GLO-014 low light imaging standard (LLIS) emits light over 5 orders of magnitude. It can be used for any low light-measuring camera - for quality control or as a benchmark for between experiment comparisons. This model emits Green light with spectral peak of 525 nm. The Tritium based self-illuminating standards are used to calibrate scientific bioimaging systems (low light cameras). The use of the Tritium standards further allows direct comparison between multiple images.

The Glowell Calibration Standard was used with our Biochemi HR to demonstrate the sensitivity of the camera. After 30 min of exposure, note the 3rd and 4th aperature of the luminescent standard is visible with very low background noise.

UVP Laboratory Heating Plate

UVP's Heating Plate provides a precision temperature controlled plate for maintaining a constant temperature of samples in various laboratory applications. These applications include chemiluminescent blots where temperature variation can have a dramatic effect on reproducibility. Stable temperature will give consistent day-to-day results. When imaging small animals, the heating plate supplies a uniform temperature setting to calm the animal while taking pictures.

The heating plate can be used with UVP's BioImaging Systems including the BioSpectrumAC, EC3 and ChemiDoc-It Imaging Systems.

Camera Descriptions

OptiChemi HR Camera
The camera is an advanced, monochrome CCD camera for extra long exposure times. Intense cooling and low noise give a wide dynamic range for applications with longer integration for bioluminescence applications. Provide superior quantum efficiency for chemiluminescence.

BioChemi HR Camera
Chosen for sensitivity, this monochrome CCD camera is designed specifically for the Western Blots. The camera is cooled to subzero temperatures, produces low background noise and a wide dynamic range for high quality images in a short exposure time, excellent for chemiluminescence.

Chemi HR Camera
Suitable for high resolution imaging, this cooled CCD camera can also be applied to general purpose chemiluminescent, fluorescent or white light imaging. The camera can be used in molecular biology and pharmaceutical laboratories.

Gel HR Camera
Monochrome high resolution megapixel, non-cooled CCD camera for laboratories performing routine electrophoresis of DNA and protein gels.

Fluor Camera

Chromato-Vue Viewing Cabinets from UVP provide a darkroom environment for viewing materials. The comfortable soft rubber viewport utilizes a contrast control viewing filter. This filter protects the eyes from harmful shortwave radiation and blocks the "blue haze" associated with longwave UV. Viewport has adequate space for eyeglasses. A lightweight access curtain allows for easy entry and blocks out external light.

A variety of cabinets are available to choose from including mini cabinets for viewing minerals and education uses to larger cabinets for applications such as chromatography.

Mini UV Viewing Cabinets
Mini Chromato-Vue Viewing Cabinets provide a compact darkroom environment for viewing materials. All cabinets feature a contrast control filter that absorbs UV energy to protect the eyes. Photo shows the C-10 Cabinet with a Handheld UV Lamp or purchased as G-15G which is a set.

Multifunctional Chromato-Vue Viewing Cabinet provides a darkroom environment for viewing materials. The C-65 accommodates one or two of the eight watt EL Series Lamps.

Large UV Viewing Cabinets
The large UV Chromato-Vue viewing cabinets feature a removable bottom panel so the cabinet may be placed over large samples or a transilluminator. Cabinets include high intensity 15-watt UV. C-70G Cabinet pictured.

UVP BioLite Multispectral Source

The BioLite Multispectral Source uses a 150 Watt quartz halogen visible light source with variable intensity and exchangeable filters for tightly controlling the output spectrum. The BioLite emits a consistent source for illumination of samples.

UVP Benchtop UV Transilluminators

UVP's patented 3UV Benchtop Transilluminator provides the selection of longwave, midrange and shortwave in one compact unit.

Key Features:

Easily view gels under longwave for extended periods of time avoiding photonicking damage. Researchers can switch to midrange to increase the fluorescence for photodocumentation. Shortwave is used to irradiate samples. 2UV models provide longwave and midrange UV. All Benchtop Transilluminator models are compact, lightweight units. These 8-watt models provide a low cost alternative to the High Performance UV Transilluminators. A variety of filter area work surface sizes are available. Clear UV blocking cover included with each transilluminator.

The Blak-Ray B-100 Series high powered UV lamps offer brilliant irradiance for optimum fluorescence. All "P" series lamps come with the special heat-resistant plastic Cool-TouchTM housing which allows users to handle the lamp head regardless of how long the lamp has been operating.  These rugged lamps can be placed face down on a working surface without damamge to the filter.
 
 Key Features:
  • The B-100 lamp is recommended for use in leak detection applications
  • Uses for the B-100AP and AP/R include science, non-destructive testing and fluorescence inspection
  • The B100YP is excellent for semiconductor wafer inspection as most photoresist absorption occurs below 450nm

B-100AP models feature a longwave UV and Cool-Touch housing, 100 watt longwave bulb and ballast base. At 18 in. (457 mm), the lamp produces a highly intense center of UV irradiance about 5 in.
